2018-2019 Construction

Travelers in the area can expect to see preparation work like vegetation clearing, grading along shoulders and utility relocations throughout the project area as we continue to prep for upcoming construction activities throughout the interchange. Construction activities are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2018 and during 2019.

Construction Alert: Kansas Avenue will be temporarily closed beginning Sept. 17, 2018. The closure is anticipated to last two months.

Additional construction activities planned for 2018-2019 include:

  • Grading work on westbound I-80 to northbound I-380 and eastbound I-80 to southbound U.S. 218.
    • Traffic shifts to temporary shoulder pavement during construction
  • Construction on new eastbound I-80 to northbound I-380 bridge.
  • Construction of the relocated Kansas Avenue (2018) and 340th (2019).

Construction will continue on a new interchange at Forevergreen Road. The Forevergreen Interchange is located approximately two miles north of the I-80/I-380 Systems Interchange and two miles south of the existing Penn Street Interchange in North Liberty. Currently, Forevergreen Road is a two lane gravel road that connects the municipalities of North Liberty to the north, Coralville to the south and Tiffin to the west.

If you drive the 80/380 Systems Interchange, follow 511 to get the most current information about closures, lane shifts, and other construction-related impacts.
